Eric Hanson - Vermont Center for Ecostudies
In this program, Vermont Center for Ecostudies (VCE) biologist, Eric Hanson, will share findings from tracking banded loons over the past 30 years across North America, current and future conservation concerns, and their wintering life when not in Vermont. He’ll also give an update about how loons in Vermont are doing today along with an overview of conservation efforts in our region. The VLCP is a program of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies (VCE) and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Eric Hanson captured and banded loons in the 1990s, set up the Minnesota Loon Monitoring Program as part of a masters degree, and has coordinated the Vermont Loon Conservation Project (VLCP), a program of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, since 1998. His loon work in Vermont has focused on management around loon nest sites, education of lake users, and making volunteers an integral part of loon conservation in Vermont.
